An oil sketch/practice run for a larger painting of a Buddhist influenced depiction of Apollo.
This cultural/artistic interaction was inspired during my time working for the Sackler Gallery shop in the Smithsonian. That museum has a bust of a Gandharan Buddha, a style of Buddhist art that was influenced by Hellenistic art brought east by traders and migrants. I took that symbolic influence and turned it back the other way to one of the chief inspirations: Apollo. I have depicted Apollo in the Gandharan style ever since.
